A few of my granddaughters

I have the best grandchildren. They are just great and practically perfect.  Here are some of them and some of the things that have been keeping me busy lately.

My cute little granddaughters M and J after their dance recital.  They were soooo tired from dancing and starving because they were gone all day.  They both did such a good job dancing.  It was lots of fun to watch them.
Here we are eating dessert at The Chocolate.  We had all gone to the movies and saw Soul Surfer which is a really good movie.  It is the true story about the teen-aged girl who had her arm bitten off by a shark in Hawaii.  It is a very inspiring movie.    My sweet, smart, awesome Lana with her 3 oldest girls.  She was here bringing the girls to attend university.  One will go to BYU and the other to UVU.

I just love these 3 adorable sisters.

You can see that they love each other too.

Here's J in her dorm.

Of course the little nieces had to help her move in.

Fun college days are ahead for these 2 girls.  I remember loving my college days.  I wish them lots of fun and success in all of their endeavors.

Sweet Tomatoes

My good friend Michelle and her husband Steve are taking a little vacation and are staying with Kathy and Gary.  Kathy and Gary are also good friends who have lived in this area for 6 years already.  Tonight John and I were able to meet up with them at Sweet Tomatoes.  We met up at 6:00 and finally left after 9:30 when they were closing down the restaurant.  We had so much to talk about and laugh about.  We really enjoyed seeing one another after not seeing each other for such a long time.  It is so nice to spend time with good friends.

My Birthday

Yesterday I had a most wonderful birthday.  One of my oldest friends, Judy Ferrari took me out to lunch.  We went to Zupas in Draper.  She and Chuck were in Utah babysitting for their daughter, Chrissie, while Chrissie and her husband went to Hungary for his work.  Richard is a chemist and does a lot of traveling to lecture and to troubleshoot.  Sometimes Chris gets to go along.  Fun, fun.  Chris, Trish Jensen, and Diane Allen also came to lunch with us.  We had a really nice time, but I forgot to take any pictures.
Later in the afternoon my cute granddaughters and baby great granddaughter came over with some cupcakes that they made for me.  I thought it was sooooo thoughtful of them and I really appreciated the visit a lot.  All three girls are so beautiful and I'm happy that they live near me for the time being.  Little Tatum got hungry so I made her a scrambled egg, which she requested.  Then she ate a string cheese and finally she got what she really wanted in the first place, one of the cupcakes.  I guess she had been wanting one ever since they began making them.  HA.
It was so hot Saturday and our AC went out on friday.  I was so hot by the late afternoon that I had to take off my hot jeans and put on a Mumu.  I cooled down right away.
In the evening we went to Val's house to hang out and play games.  Valerie gave me this beautiful Pandora charm bracelet from all of the kids.  It's really pretty, but I just couldn't get a good photo with my camera.  All of the kids gave me a charm to go on it.  Lana and family got me an Eiffel Tower, which is still in the mail.  Alec and Kelly gave me a Russian Babushka stacking doll, Michael and JaNee's is in the mail,  Val and family gave me a little purse,  Anna and family gave me a little dog, a hand signing I Love You and a heart with the word Mom.  Valerie and Dani got me a little frog and Dani got me a glass, purple bead.  Andrea and Emily's and their families is in the mail too.  I love it and think it's so special that they all went to the trouble of picking just the right gift for me.

I received lots of cards and messages on Facebook and even a wonderful phone call from Natacha one of our favorite young adults in France.

What a wonderful day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Father's Day 2011

We had a really nice Father's Day last Sunday.  Lana and Sierra were here and Val and her family came over right after church.  We all made food and then ate together and just enjoyed each other's company.  Unfortunately we had to cut it short because we had to drive Lana and Sierra to the airport.  I sure love to be together, but it always come to an end way too soon.

Here are the handsome Father's that were being celebrated: Greg, Ryan, Papa, and Jose.  They are all such great men.  We are lucky to have them in our lives.

Toe Surgery

A little over 2 weeks ago I was selling a water bed that was in the house when we moved in.  The lady who bought it came with her 20 some year old son.  As he was carrying 3 of the heavy, oak drawers, he somehow dropped them and they flew over and hit me in the shoulder and chest and then fell down onto my toe.  Oh My Gosh!  It hurt sooooooo much.  I thought maybe it was broken.  I called Alec and asked him what they would do if it was broken.  I thought they would do nothing.  He replied that they usually don't do anything, but that if was bad enough, they might put a pin in it.  I did not want surgery, so I decided not to go to the Dr.  My toe began to feel a little better after a few days, but it still hurt a lot and continued to hurt.  As the weeks went by I knew I had a pretty bad infection because my toe was red, black and blue and it still bled if I even accidentally touched it.  Plus it was beginning to have an area of white around part of the nail.  I finally knew I had to go to the doctor.  After taking x-rays, he told me that I actually have a hairline fracture and a really bad infection.  He said that the blood collects under the toe and because it is a warm, moist environment, infection develops.  He had to remove the entire toe nail.    Actually, the toe was already completely broken off at the base of the toe.  He also had to do quite a bit of scraping and trimming  It was so gross.  I had some pre nail growing which the doctor said was was growing crazy and so he had to go under the skin at the base of the nail and trim and clean that all up.    Now I have just a little recovery and I will be fine.  Hopefully the nail will grow back.  You can see my swollen foot and huge bandaged toe.

Monday morning I was visiting teaching Arlene.  When we finished our lesson and visit, she and I went to her backyard to see her flowers, vegetables and herbs.  As I was walking along the path in the side yard, the neighbor's dog, which was chained up, lunged at me several times.  It clawed my side and tore a huge hole in my shirt.  Today I called the family and told them what happened and that perhaps they should make the chain smaller because Arlene's little grandchildren are coming for a long visit.  I didn't want those children to be hurt.  The lady apologized and asked me if I wanted a new shirt.  I told her no that I just wanted her to be aware of the problem.  She replied by telling me that the dog was very nice and that she herself had quite a few children and that the dog was always nice to them.   I'm not quite sure that dog is so nice.

Emily's Baby Shower

Saturday we had a surprise baby shower for Emily and it really was a surprise.  Jose was in on the surprise so he finally was able to persuade her to go to a little fair in town.  She really didn't want to go anywhere because her back is hurting so much and she just wanted to rest.  She is working so hard going to school and working and has to work Sat evenings too.  Anyway, time was passing and passing and they were still here and I still had so much to do: set up, finish cooking, decorated etc. etc.  I was getting a bit nervous.  Finally they left about 11:30 and people were invited for 12:30.  Fortunately Lana and Valerie came over and helped me with everything.  Lana was here for a few days because she brought Sierra and Jenna to stay here for school.  Jenna has begun BYU and Sierra got her apartment and classes set up at UVU.  She went back with Lana, but will return at the end of Aug.  I am so excited that my cute little granddaughters will be so close to me now.  Of course, I'm sure they will be busy with school and all of their fun activities.
Well, Emily walked in and she said she was so hot and sweaty and hungry that at first she didn't even understand what was going on.  She quickly caught on and we got her a big glass of water and then she could concentrate on seeing her friends.  The shower went really well and we all enjoyed it.  In the photo above you can see the food minus an enchilada ring that I baked.  I tried it for the first time and it turned out really good.  Andrea wasn't here, but she is actually the one who did a lot of the work for the shower.  She planned it, did the invites, sent things to decorate and actually talked to Val, Lana and I on Skype while we were setting up.  We were so sad she couldn't be here.
Val made this nice water with strawberries, lemons, limes, oranges, and mint.  It really gave a good flavor.  She also made the Oreo cookies and a yummy salad.
 Here is hot, surprised Em.

 Paulette, Emily, Trish, and Dani
Lana, Kristy who came all the way from Lancaster, and Val
Mackenzie, Jordyn, Dani, Tatum and Sierra
Dani and Natalia

Lana got baby Jakob a monogrammed onsie and burp rag.
Flavia who couldn't attend made this cute quilt for her.  I also made a quilt.  I will have to take a photo and post it later.

Andrea's gift came wrapped in this cute box.

Trish and Sharon are my good friends from years and years ago.  Now they both live in this area.  I was so happy to see them both.

Danielle had made cupcakes, but on the way to the shower she had to make a quick stop because the car  in front of her suddenly braked.  Luckily she was not hurt, but the cupcakes didn't make it.  She stopped at Cold Stone and got replacement ice cream cupcakes.  They were yummy although we were sad that hers were ruined.

Paulette with Jordyn.  Paulette is the Mom of Sara and Amie the two darlings that I babysat for years and who are still good friends.  In fact, Sara and Andrea are BFF since Kindergarten.  Paulette is the nicest friend.  She is now a yoga instructor.  I think that is awesome that she started doing such a fun thing.
Dani and Aunt Val always have fun together.  Emily got lots of wonderful gifts for her little baby who will be coming Aug 8th.  We can't wait to meet the little guy.  There's nothing sweeter than a brand new baby.  I can't wait to hold him and cuddle him too.
